Tending Our Demons is a shamanic workshop based on Tsultrim Allione’s adaptation of the Tibetan Buddhist practice of Chod. Chod teaches us to befriend that which we would most like to avoid, helping us surrender to those things that scare us and block us from becoming fully who we are.
In this workshop we will name, face, and tend to our inner individual demons as we remember our soul’s strength, our spiritual allies, and release our attachment to physical form.
Tending our demons does not strengthen them but rather allows the energy that has been locked up in them to become accessible. Conversely, trying to fight against or suppress disowned “demonic” parts of ourselves actually gives them power and resistance.
Allione’s method moves beyond a psychological approach to interaction and resolution from a non-dual place of awareness and surrender. It has proven useful in dealing with chronic emotional and physical issues, as well as with short-term upheavals such as the breakup of a relationship, the stress of losing a job, the death of a loved one, and interpersonal problems at work and at home.
The workshop will run from 9-5 on both Saturday and Sunday. Please bring a drum or rattle if you have one. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring an eye cover, a blanket, and a pen and notebook to record your journeys.
A prerequisite is the ability to do a shamanic journey to one’s helping spirit(s).
Cecile Carson, MD, is a shamanic practitioner and teacher who has been initiated into the Chod lineage of Machik Lapdron, and combines shamanic and Tibetan Buddhist traditions in this workshop. She has spent several decades in counseling people facing life-threatening illness and in bringing a soulful approach to healthcare.
