Cecile Carson, M.D. is an internist also trained in psychiatry. She has focused much of her work on helping people deal with life-threatening illness such as HIV and cancer for over 25 years. She presently works in counseling and teaching rather than primary care internal medicine. She was Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY from 1988 to 2006. Since her first days in medical school, she has looked for ways to address the whole person. Her fascination has been the many forms that the healing process can take, and she has explored many of them outside of traditional medicine: Reiki I and II, hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming, therapeutic recreation, psychodrama, dreamwork, and shamanism. She has also taught about doctor-patient communication and developed a curriculum in nonverbal communication for health care providers that has been disseminated nationally and internationally. More recently, following extensive training in shamanic practice through the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, she has begun integrating this modality into her own practice as well as teaching it to others.

Bramblewood’s Queen Maeve is a registered Ibizan hound and a therapy dog. She is genetically inclined toward mellowness, playfulness, and a calm presence. Her intelligence and unconditional positive regard of others sets a welcoming tone to any encounter. Maeve is wise beyond her years and is always teaching Cecile new things.
